5 Things to Check Before Buying a Used RV The roof and seals. Look for cracked or peeling sealant around every seam, vent, and skylight. Failed seals let water in, and water is what destroys RVs from the inside out. Soft spots in the floor and walls. Walk the floor and press on the walls. Any sponginess can signal hidden water damage or rot that's expensive to repair. Signs of past leaks. Water stains, bubbling wallpaper, musty smells, or discoloration around windows and in cabinets are red flags worth investigating. Appliances actually running. Don't take "it all works" on faith. The fridge, furnace, air conditioning, water heater, and stove should each be turned on and verified. Tire age, not just tread. RV tires often age out before they wear out.
