This is a classic piece of campground advice, but video testing inside clear demonstration tanks has proven the ice trick is a complete myth. Here is why it fails: Ice Floats: Because ice floats, it stays on top of the liquid and never touches the heavy sludge, hardened tissue, or scale stuck to the bottom and lower walls. Zero Friction: Melting ice is incredibly slick. It easily slides around stubborn buildup rather than scraping it off. Melts Too Fast: Depending on the weather, those cubes often melt into harmless water within the first few minutes of your drive. Why do some people say it worked for them? What actually helps is the water volume, not the ice. Adding gallons of fluid (as the ice melts) and driving around will slosh loose, fresh debris-free. However, it completely misses stubborn grease, hardened "pyramids," and dirty sensors.
